Before being admitted to a proper Rehabilitation Centre for my recovery from drug addiction, I couldn’t realize the importance and the necessity of it. I’ve been using drugs for the past decade, and I have tried to quit by myself at least a dozen of times but every time I fell back again in the addiction, in simple words relapsed. It’s a battle fighting against addiction and after worsening this battle for more than dozens of times, I was at a point where I couldn’t believe that I’m capable of fighting with it anymore and from within myself I thought that I’ve lost finally and now I won’t ever be able to recover from it. But then I saw light, hope in the darkest days of my life. I was introduced to a rehab Centre where I saw hope. They showed me the way to recover. I started believing that I could but of course I knew that it was not possible without any external help. I knew that I couldn’t do it alone as I’ve been doing it for the last decade. I needed to get myself admitted in a proper recovery program.

For a person suffering from mental illness or the disease of addiction, rehab is necessary. As a patient, we cannot take the right decision for ourselves, especially in case of drug addiction the patients thoughts and decisions are very much influenced by the drug hence resulting in their inability to decide right for themselves and in case of mental illness it’s obvious the patient is incapable of choosing the right for themselves and so they require some external superior authority to decide for them. Rehab means Re-habit. It changes the person’s pattern of life, their daily routine, their habits, detoxification of drugs from their blood and soul, then reintegrating into new versions of themselves which are not dependent on drugs. It’s importance for a patient to go through the whole process of change, spend the required amount of time in a controlled environment, learn about their disease, get insight of their problems, identifying the and then preparing themselves to fight against them also about the factors of relapse, do the relapse prevention training. And this can only be done in a controlled environment inside the Rehabilitation Centre. Furthermore, during this period the patient requires constant therapies, counselling and medication, which is available only at rehab centers, not at home.
